I don’t feel comfortable putting this under the category of any of Shakespeare’s other plays (tragedy, comedy, etc) because it truly stands alone. It reminds me, primarily, of “a play about playing.” It is well known that Shakespeare wrote this at the end of his life, there was trouble with the art if theatre at the time, and it was his last solo work. I could find many references to acting and “playing” so to speak, especially being an actor myself. But besides the interpretation, it is one of my favorites of Shakespeare’s works. The plot is solid, and has its dramatic and comedic moments. The use of magic was very interesting, and although I didn’t feel to strongly for any of the characters (compared to worry for Antonio’s fate in “Merchant of Venice”) I found myself enjoying it. I’ll probably re-read this and write another review, but I’d highly recommend it, although it is not the place to start with Shakespeare.” Luke (5 out of 5 stars)
